Colors For the Small Bedroom - Danish Design and Color Blue Add Spaciousness to the Small Bedroom

When looking for ideas to create an interesting appearance for small bedrooms, I like to look at far bigger ideas and see if they will adapt successfully to a small concept. This way, I become far more creative and widen my perspective as to possibilities. This also helps me to see the space objectively and not as a restricted and difficult area to design.

I am very fond of Scandinavian design and find it ideal for the small room. The Danish designs, particularly, appeal to me. Typical colors of Danish design are pale blues, creme and natural tones of wood. These are excellent colors for making rooms look more spacious. The warm nuances of wood counteract the cooler blues and prevent the room from appearing too cold.

The walls are painted in pale blue, the ceiling and doors in a creme-white. Pure white would make the blue appear too cool. Textiles are also kept in pale blue in order to create a sense of unity in the total appearance and retain the spacious effect. Pale blue always opens up space, like the early morning sky on the horizon of a pale, bluish gray ocean, giving an impression of infinity.

The Danish simplicity of design in their furniture is excellent for using in a small bedroom. This furniture creates clarity. The wood should be kept in a pale, light shade so that it does not appear heavy in a small bedroom. It also looks great set against a blue background. This combination creates a simplistic and amiable elegance.

Light plays an important role in Danish design. In fact, the natural light of Denmark is something very unique. It is this special, atmospheric northern light that has had decisive influence on Danish designers. It is no coincidence that some of the greatest lamp designers came from Denmark. In addition to being functional, their lamps are at the same time like small sculptures. Their clear designs make them excellent for a small bedroom. They create atmosphere and add a subtle artistic touch to a room without taking up precious space.

Every detail counts in the limited space of a small bedroom. By keeping to a basic color scheme and clear designs, as inspired by the Scandinavian natural colors, it will be possible to give even a very small bedroom a classy touch. It will make the bedroom look far more spacious, but will not stretch a limited budget.
