The wheels of interior design turn slower in my house than I would like. I affectionately refer to that as husband issues! But it is still going forward and I now have the new furniture in place. It is a sofa, chair and a half (love that!) and an ottoman in a durable microsuede fabric. Grey dolphin is the cutesy name of the color. The comfort level created by this furniture is off the charts. It is way too easy for me to drift off to sleep in there at any time of the day or night. Grey looks so good with the yellow color on the wall and now I absolutely love it!
Cobalt blue is a great complement color with grey and yellow. So, I am now looking for that shade of blue material to make throw pillows that I will border with a Greek key ribbon banding. The curtains will follow probably in a nubby linen color. I am waiting for one of my mills to create their samples out of the stamped linen fabrics that I fell in love with at the High Point Market last fall. You know me, once I get an idea in my head, I set out to find the exact thin and end up feeling like I am looking for a needle in a haystack!
When my husband built the beautiful dark wood stained fireplace surround, it blended in too much with the same stain on my ancient paneling. I could not silence that 1970's paneling look that screamed at me so loud and clear. Until last month, my husband fiercely fought to protect that outdated image. What made him give in and let me start updating that room is still unclear to this day. But, nonetheless, the journey has started. Paint was the first step. I wanted to get a bright, warm and inviting feeling for that room. Covering paneling requires preparation steps that we had to take first. First there was the deglossing process followed by two coats of primer and then two coats of my chosen color. But the look is awesome! The paint is Valspar Homestead Resort Tea Room Yellow, a yellow that does not turn green on the wall. I have become a strong advocate for the sample jars of paint. You have no idea how many trial brush strokes of different yellows were put on a wall before I made my choice.
