What Your Room Says About You

The style and décor of your home speaks volumes about your personality because it displays your taste as well as your sense of style. The idea of decorating your home can be both desirable as well as daunting.

How and where do I begin? What accessories should I choose? How should I budget my home design?

Don't rush; relax.

Think and analyze your physical and personal needs, things you like and dislike, and then design your home to fulfil these needs. Your physical needs concern sleeping, eating, cooking, studying, entertaining, etc. No matter how eye-catching a room is, if it does not fulfill its practical function, it is not considered a properly decorated room.

Psychological needs vary from person to person because they depend on an individual's taste and personality. They include a sense of belonging, security, privacy and one's aesthetic sense and as a result, your surroundings and room design reflect your actual lifestyle, mood, hobbies, ambitions, interests, and attitude.

With experience to sensitivity in human nature, you can come up with accurate personality judgements; by analyzing the colors, patterns, accessories and furnishings people use in their home décor. For instance, a home design with a certain degree of formality, luxury and ample seating space, impressive artifacts and other accessories tell us that the owners are very active socially and particularly conscious of their standing in the community. Their social life is depicted in their home décor.

As mentioned earlier, colors also play a big role in reflecting your moods, attitude and personality. Listed here are some colors along with the impression they create about you:

Red is a highly stimulating color and exerts passion and high energy. Rooms with walls and accessories in this color may belong to people with an outgoing, and possibly spontaneous nature.
A room with a bright yellow color scheme generally reflects a cheerful and idealistic person.
The color green, used abundantly as indoor and outdoor plants, reveals a caring, serene and empathetic person. Green, as the color of nature, creates a well-balanced and peaceful environment.
Blue is also a cool, calm color and rooms decorated in this shade often belong to serene, intellectual and easygoing persons.
Brown is considered an earthy tone and, as a result, is associated with strength and security. A room where the color brown is used profusely may depict a conservative person with a balanced attitude.
Lastly, white is the universal a color of purity and simplicity.
In conclusion, how you decorate your home says volumes about your personality and if you have an observant eye and an analytical mind, you can easily decode a person through their home décor.
