Interior Design: Trendy Colors for 2012

Changing up the color of a room or adding new color to a space is by far one of the easiest ways to update a space. In fact, many professional interior designers often use color as an inexpensive solution for dated spaces. Incorporating a trendy color can change the entire interior design of any given room, typically within a single day. Here's the low down on the trendiest colors for 2012.

Bring In The Red

Red was popular a few years ago, but it's back again with a vengeance. Don't settle for a single hue, either. There are tons of different shades of red out there, you just have to find the right one for you. Besides, red doesn't have to be overwhelming. It can actually be quite comfortable if done right. Don't be afraid of red, you'd be surprised at how easily it blends in with a variety of interior design looks.

Beige Is Out, Brown Is In

Even though beige is one of those neutrals that people say will last forever, this isn't true. Beige comes and goes in terms of popularity in interior design. In fact, you'll find that beige itself may be out, but brown is most certainly in. Darker, warm hues of brown are especially trendy, though avoid chocolate brown, which is definitely 'out' currently.

Natural Hues: Green

Certain shades that remind us of nature are definitely coming back into play. No matter what year it is, people are always looking for ways to bring the outdoors in. Rich but natural green hues are a perfect way to do this. Just avoid hues that look fake, such as pastel or "Easter" green or mint green, as these are not currently trendy in the interior design world.

Soft Yellows

In recent years, mustard yellow and lemon yellow were particularly hot in the interior design world. With that in mind, this year shades of yellow are softer and lighter in hue. The lighter the yellow, the more neutral it becomes, which makes it an extremely versatile color. However, be careful not to go too neutral, which can cause it to look beige.

Jewel Tones

Finally, any of the major jewel tones are also popular this year. You'll find that jewel tones reflect the global influencing currently affecting the interior design world, so you can't go wrong with any of these hues. Consider hues such as citrine, sapphire, ruby or emerald, all of which can compliment a number of styles.
